The Love of Learning Parent Association Presents
Labor of Love
14th Annual Art Auction & Gala
Honoring Sheldon & Camilla Thompson
Benefitting Love of Learning Montessori School
Saturday, May 12, 2018
Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Huntington
109 Browns Rd. Huntington
The Love of Learning Gala started as a humble art auction in a church basement, powered by parent volunteers, to raise funds for our beloved school. Today we carry on the spirit of community and caring to enjoy an elegant night-out. Our goal is to raise $30,000+ to support scholarships and extracurricular programming – those important extras that make Love of Learning an even better place to go to school.
Love of Learning Montessori may have found its home at Camp Alvernia in 2005, but our Co-Founders, Sheldon and Camilla Thompson have been pioneers in Montessori education in this country for over 40 years!
Trained at the Washington Montessori Institute in Washington, DC and certified by Dr. Montessori's son, Mario Montessori, Sheldon and Camille began teaching in 1976. Together they have shepherded many hundreds of students through the student-led curriculum and built our beloved school that serves over 180 families today in Pre-K through 6th grade on two campuses in Centerport, NY.
It is our great joy to announce the 2018 Spring Gala, our largest annual fundraising and social event, to be a celebration of their work, their vision and their... .
The Love of Learnng Gala and Art Auction is produced by a volunteer committee of Love of Learning parents. Meeting bi-monthly or weekly through the winter and spring months, our core committee members serve as leaders for the dozens of other parent volunteers who serve on their sub-committees. This event really does take a village to put together and we ask that every family give some time, big or small, to help ensure its success. We do need lots of help leading up to the event so even if you are unable to attend, you can still participate in making our school's most important fund raiser a success. We also need a lot of wo/man power on May 11th and 12th for set-up, run of show, and clean-up. If you have not yet stepped up for a volunteer slot, please contact our volunteer coordinator Melissa Lapp: firstname.lastname@example.org
